The Night Circus feels like a dream. The ambiance from start to finish was splendid. It started off pensive and whimsical, until it gradually progressed to a darker undertone. There's nothing graphic about the novel, but certain chapters left me feeling...derailed. The challenge was obscured and remained a confusion to me up until the end of the book, but I didn't mind. The mystery kept me tethered to the story.
To be honest, the romance didn't pull me in enough. Am I just ritzy and ultra selective with the romance I read? Maybe. But there are a multitude of remarkable elements that kept me attention diverted from the uninspired love story. I was distracted with the fantastic creations on the circus--the creative thought and richness of the details. I was distracted by the fascinating characters of Widget and Poppet and Bailey. I was distracted with the magic and how tangible it is as I read it. I was distracted with the Pool of Tears and The Wishing Tree. I was distracted with the rêveurs, and how good friendship forms with the likeness of mind and curiosity. Simply put, I was distracted with how marvelous the story was put together.

Totally skippable desultory thoughts: I haven't read in almost half a year, and finishing this book marked the beginning of my 2018 reading year. It was a perfect balance--not underwhelming, but not a whirlwind either. Even though I didn't start reading this book five (5) months after, I still brought it whenever I went, starting when I traveled to Paris late January. I meant to start it then, but the traveling made it difficult for me to focus on reading. Nevertheless, I got to it a few months after. Haha.
